Brierley Forest

Primary and Nursery School

Welcome to Year 1!

In Year 1, we are striving to be the very best we can by following our school rules 'Ready, Respect & Safe' and our school values which are thriving, caring, community and resilience. We have also discussed our own class rules and we have signed our class agreement to ensure we follow them. This was very child led and what the children saw as important. Some of these included: tucking the chairs under the tables, good listening, good sitting and good magnet eyes, be kind, share, choose it, use it, put it away and most importantly... have fun!

We also have Miss Walton who supports us in class.

Our curriculumcontinuous and enhanced provision encourages our children to explore and make links across all subject areas. Children will use practical resources and activities linked to the curriculum to help secure their knowledge and understanding through adult led learning and independent learning time.

Early reading is taught through the Read Write Inc Phonics Programme. Have a look at the Phonics section under the curriculum tab for more information and film clips to help you understand how the programme works. Children will bring home phonetically decodable books matched to their reading level. These are changed every Tuesday during our class La Bibliotheque times but we try to read with the children throughout the week so it is important that children bring their reading packs to school every day.

PE will be on Friday's. Please make sure you send your child to school in their PE kit and that they have appropriate trainers on. We will be doing PE either inside or outside so please dress your child appropriately depending on the weather.

Please ensure that your child brings a water bottle to school everyday. It would also be very helpful if names can be on cardigans/ jumpers/ bags and water bottles

Thank you for your continued support Miss Pownall-Brown and Miss Walton smiley
