Brierley Forest

Primary and Nursery School

Y1

Welcome to Year 1!!

In Year 1, we are striving to be the very best we can by following our school rules 'Ready, Respect & Safe'.

We are also lucky to have Mrs Lloyd and Ms Roebuck supporting us in class.

Our curriculum encourages our children to explore and make links across subject areas. Children will use practical resources to help secure their knowledge and understanding. Now that Covid regulations have relaxed, we are lucky enough to be going on a school trip! Look out for further information, or ask your child's class teacher.

Early reading is taught through the Read Write Inc Phonics Programme. Have a look at the Phonics section under the curriculum tab for more information and film clips to help you understand how the programme works. Children will bring home phonetically decodable books matched to their reading level. These are changed weekly, at different points and so it is important that children bring their reading packs to school every day.

PE will be on Tuesday. Please make sure you send your child to school in their PE kit and that they have trainers on. We will be doing PE either inside or out so please dress your child appropriately (e.g. a jacket/jumper or shorts/jogging bottoms) depending on the weather.

Thank you for your continued support Mrs Wallis, Mrs Wesley and Miss Wood.
