PE Intent
The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide all children with high quality PE and sport provision. Our vision is for every pupil to succeed and achieve their potential as well as to lead physically active lifestyles. We strive to inspire our pupils through fun and engaging PE lessons that offer challenges, allow enjoyment and are accessible to all. We want our pupils to appreciate and understand the benefits of a healthy and physically active lifestyle.
Our teaching of PE will provide opportunities for pupils to develop values and transferrable life skills such as fairness and respect as well as providing them with opportunities to take part in competitive sport, both in school and out of school.
Through sport, we believe all children can build up their social relationships and resilience, which then can be transferred to every other area of school. PE at Brierley Forest is an imperative element of the curriculum, which develops a need for healthy life styles, a balanced diet, a growth mind-set and the resilience to persevere with activities that may have once felt too difficult. We are passionate about the need to teach children co-operation, collaboration and the understanding of fairness in order to embed life-long values.
Our PE curriculum focuses on being broad and balanced and giving children the opportunity to apply their skills in a variety of sports- whether this be in competitions or not. Our curriculum map is devised to ensure staff and children are the main priority within PE – it gives teachers the autonomy to choose the appropriate lessons/activities for their children and ones in which they feel confident in.
