Children love lunchtimes at Brierley Forest!
Lunchtimes are staggered, so children eat within their phases. All children get to eat with their friends, whether they are school dinners or packed lunches. Whilst in the dining hall, they can chat to their friends, or choose to visit the reading area.
Outside, the children choose from a number of activities, selecting a zone to attend. The zones include sports, practical games, skipping, dancing or an area to simply relax. The activities in the zones are changed each week to ensure variety and allow the children the opportunity to access all zones across a week. We adjust activities based on children and staff suggestions.
We invited Next Level Sports to provide training for our lunchtime staff; this ensured that our Midday Supervising Assistants had quality CPD and the opportunity to discuss and agree how lunchtime should run. The impact of this is that the children have a focused and purposeful break and staff feel valued and listened to.
Soon, we will be introducing our Lunchtime Leaders - these will be children who show our values every day, who are role models to others and who show leadership skills. Watch this space to find out who they will be!
