VE Day - 80 year anniversary
Whilst the wars are not a significant part of the primary curriculum, they are a huge part of our local and British history. Celebrating events such as VE Day, is another way of cementing the sense of belonging for our children in the wider context of the UK. Many of our families have relatives who joined the army following the closure of the Brierley Colliery, so days like this have even more significance.
Children spent time learning why we were celebrating the anniversary of VE Day and then we all came together to have a picnic lunch, playing some very traditional playground games together. We invited residents from local care homes to join us, to further build our sense of belonging and caring.
