How can we make the world a better place?
During this project we will enjoy, share and discuss a range of fiction and non-fiction texts relating to our question “How can we make the world a better place?”
We will begin the unit with a letter from Prince William and David Attenborough asking us for our help to save the world. We will be exploring what the world is to ensure that we know that it is bigger than just Sutton-In-Ashfield. We will then begin to identify some issues with the world and what might happen to the world and its animals if we don’t look after it. We will learn about firework safety, road safety, pollution, rubbish and recycling. We will be using the vocabulary reduce, reuse, recycle to think about some of the things that we can do including making our own junk models and we will also discuss how we need to make the right choices in order for change to happen.
We will go for a walk around the school and then to Brierley Park so we can see first-hand the amount of rubbish left on the floor and consider the damage it might cause.
By the end of our project, we will be able to explain some of the ways in which we can help our world and will use this knowledge to make a poster which we will display around school to tell others what they need to do.
