Spring Term 1
Welcome Back to The Gruffalos - We hope you had a lovely Christmas and a happy new year to you all.
We are so excited to welcome the children back into school.
In Maths, we are going to continue our work with addition and subtraction. We are beginning to look at numbers up to 20. Children will begin to use a number line and also look at the different mental methods they can use to help them too.
In English, our writing is going to be focused on the book 'Katie in London'. This is a book about a little girl and her brother who go to London with their Grandma. They go on a trip around London city and lots of different landmarks around London. It is a fantastic book with some great pictures of London in too.
In Science, we are looking at materials. We will focus on wood, glass, plastic, fabric and metal. Children will look at different items and sort them into the right material. As we move forward we will then look at the properties of these materials too.
In Art, we are studying the art of 'weaving' we are focusing our study on two main artist called Gunta Stolzl and Shelia Hicks. We will study their art work and look at the different techniques and materials they used.
We are also doing Geography this term, we will be locating all the countries in the United Kingdom onto a map. We will then begin to look at famous landmarks from England and locate these onto a map too.
Autumn Term 2
Welcome back, we hope you had a relaxing half term! We are ready for an exciting half term and getting ready for Christmas!
In Maths, we are now beginning to really focus on addition and subtraction. We are focusing on counting forwards and counting backwards too.
We are also working on recalling our number bonds to 10 - we have been singing and dancing to the song below to help us remember them too.
In English, we are looking at the book 'The Snail and the Whale'. We have been plotting their journey onto our class map so we can see exactly where they have been travelling too. Every time they stop we look at the destination and look at what animals we might living there. We will look at the rainforest, Antarctica, jungle and savannah.
In Project we will focus on the environments that the animals live in, we will talk about what they need to survive and we will discuss if a lion could live at the North Pole.
As we approach Christmas time we will focus our English lessons on the book 'The Jolly Christmas Postman'.
These are the books we are looking at in Autumn Term 2
Autumn Term 1
What an amazing start to the new school year! We have had so much fun this week learning lots of new things.
In Maths, we have been counting up to 10, we have been writing our numbers and we have ordered numbers on a number line.
In English, we have been looking at lots of different nursery rhymes. We sang 'Wheels on the bus, Baa Baa Black Sheep, 5 little ducks and A sailor went to sea, sea, sea'.
We than focused on A sailor went to sea, sea, sea. We had to learn the words to the nursery rhyme, once we had mastered the words we began to add in different actions to perform our nursery rhyme. We then performed our nursery rhyme to The Elmers class - they were very impressed with how confident we were and how well we knew the words.
In Project, we started to look at the local area this week. We looked on a map and found Mannys, Brierley Forest School, The Church, The Oval and even ASDA. We then walked around our school to see if we could spot how our school had changed over time. We located where the old school buildings used to be and compared it to how our school is now.
Keep checking for updates on what we are learning!
