Welcome to The Discoverers
Our Class Teacher is Miss Gale. In The Discoverers we always strive to be the best that we can be by following our school rules 'Ready, Respect and safe'. As a Discoverer we know that we have to face challenges to discover our true potential in all of our learning.
This half term our project question is 'How can we see around corners' The children will break apart this question trying to uncover how this is possible. We will focus closely on Design and Technology thinking about entrepreneurs, inventors and engineers. Through our learning, we will design and create a final piece to help us to see around corners!
In Maths, this half term we will look at the properties of shapes including angles. We have recently learnt about right, obtuse and acute angles and are beginning to become confident in identifying these. We will explore new terminology including 'perpendicular and parallel'. Once complete, we will move onto the measurement of mass.
In English, this half term is focused on the theme 'to entertain'. Our focused text in our reciprocal reading and writing is 'Until I met Dudley'. We will use this text to create descriptive writing leading up to a final polished story. We will develop our knowledge of similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia and apply this within our writing. Towards the end of our half term, we will explore different poetry and become great poets!
In Science, this half term is focused on 'light'. We have recently explored light sources that are natural or artificial. We are beginning to understand how natural light is created outside and how the moon doesn't have it's own source of light. Our science unit will really help us to develop our thinking in our project question.
Please listen to your child read 5 times a week and record in their reading record. We will change our reading books on a Wednesday each week. Children that do read 5 times a week will receive 10 dojos on a Friday so please make sure your child brings in their reading record each day for this to be monitored.
Each week you will find spellings available on Spelling Shed and over on My Maths you will find weekly maths tasks based on the recent work we have been completing in class. Your child's logins are still the same. Dojos will be awarded to the children that complete these tasks each week.
Our PE day is Tuesday. Please send your children into school wearing their PE kit on these days. If it is cooler that day please ensure your child is wearing navy or black jogging bottoms, their school jumper and trainers. Many of our PE lessons will be outdoors.
. Our class will begin their lessons every Thursday from the 4th March 2021 until the 22nd July 2021. Please remember that girl's hair should be tied back, boys' long fringes to be clipped back and no earrings. We cannot take earrings out so please make sure your child is able to or remove them for them before school. Boys should not wear baggy shorts or shorts with pockets and girls should wear a swimming costume and not a bikini.
Please make sure your child only brings a water bottle, packed lunch (if they have one), their book bag (including their reading record everyday) and their coat. Please check your child has not taken any small toys, lip glosses or any item of make up with them even if they are in their coat pocket as they may let their friends play with these.
I look forward to our new term together
