Welcome to The Discoverers
Our Class Teacher is Miss Gale. In The Discoverers we always strive to be the best that we can be by following our school rules 'Ready, Respect and safe'. As a Discoverer we know that we have to face challenges to discover our true potential in all of our learning.
This half term our project question is 'Is change always good?' We will focus a lot on the history of our local area, Nottinghamshire and beyond. We will explore things past and present and begin to understand how these changes can be perceived as good. You might not agree with everyone on your view of what is good but be ready to justify why you think this.
In Maths, this half term we begin our Place Value unit exploring 3-digit numbers, partitioning, representing numbers in various ways and how to read and write numbers. We will use a multitude of equipment to support us including counters, place value counters, base 10, number lines, 100 squares and many more.
In English, this half term is focused on the theme 'to entertain'. We begin our unit exploring the text 'The Building Boy' an incredible story about the relationship between a young boy and his grandma. During our English sessions, we will use descriptions of characters and setting to develop our understanding of writing to entertain the reader before finalising with our own version of the story as a polished piece.
In Science, this half term is focused on 'force and magnets'. We have already begun to explore the forces; 'push/pull'. Miss Gale made us do lots of the same things over and over until we realised we were using these forces. We found this very funny but now we can apply this understanding to everyday things we do and realise how many times we use this force to move objects.
Please listen to your child read 5 times a week and record in their reading record. We will change our reading books on a Tuesday each week. Children that do read 5 times a week will receive 10 dojos on a Friday so please make sure your child brings in their reading record each day for this to be monitored.
Our PE day is Monday. Please send your children into school wearing their PE kit on these days. If it is cooler that day please ensure your child is wearing navy or black jogging bottoms, their school jumper and trainers. Many of our PE lessons will be outdoors.
. Our class will begin swimming after the Christmas 2021 holidays. We will send this information out nearer to the time.
Please make sure your child only brings a water bottle, packed lunch (if they have one), their book bag (including their reading record everyday) and their coat. Please check your child has not taken any small toys, lip glosses or any item of make up with them even if they are in their coat pocket as they may let their friends play with these.
I look forward to our new term together
