Welcome to the Voyagers
Your Class Teacher is Miss Cropley. We are also supported in our learning by Mrs Hackett, Mrs Swain and Mrs Walton some days too.
We worked very hard in year 4 and now we need to continue that determined and resilient approach in Year 5 as well - let's make lots of progress!
This half term our project question is ‘Where do carrier bags end up?' This project question has a geography focus, looking at; 'Our place in the world and how we effect it.' It will underpin all of the learning that we do this term.
In Maths, we will be continuing our unit of 'statistics', interpreting bar and line graphs, before moving onto multiplication and division. This is an incredibly important unit and builds on our knowledge of times tables from Year 4. We will look at factors, multiples, prime numbers and how to apply this knowledge in every day situations. To get a head start in his unit, practise your times tables on TT Rock Stars!
In English, will will first be writing a recount in the form of a newspaper report following our main character from the class book for this term, The Last Wild. This will give us the opportunity to retell important events from the story as we solve the mystery of the infamous Red Eye virus!
In Science, this half term is focused on 'Space and Earth'. We will build on last terms knowledge of our solar system, focusing on day and night, then, the moon phases.
Please listen to or encourage your child to read at least 3 x a week and record it in their reading planner. Voyagers change their reading books on a Wednesday each week. Please make sure that your child has their reading planner in school every day to support with our monitoring and allow us to sign them also.
Online Learning/ homework
There are weekly spellings available on Spelling Shed and weekly times tables to practise on TT Rock Stars for the change to win tickets to fun activities around Nottinghamshire! Prizes for Autumn 1 has already included tickets to I Jump!
Our PE day is Friday. Please send your children into school wearing their PE kit on these days. If it is cooler that day please ensure your child is wearing navy or black jogging bottoms, their school jumper and trainers.
I look forward to our Autumn Term together
Please make sure your child only brings a water bottle, packed lunch (if they have one), their book bag (including their reading planner everyday) and their coat. Please check your child has not taken any small toys, lip glosses or sweets with them in the morning.
I look forward to our year together
