Welcome to the Navigators
Your Class Teacher is Miss Hickens and Miss Jowle (UKS2 Phase Leader) is also based in our classroom. We are also supported in our learning by Mrs Hackett and Miss Jordan some days too.
We continued to work very hard during the Spring term (and what a Spring term it was #blendedlearning!) and now we need to continue that determined and resilient approach in our Summer Term - let's make lots of progress!
This half term our project question is ‘How does an artist’s life experience influence their work?' This project question has an art focus; 'How are the arts valued in our world today?
In Maths, we will focus mostly on Fractions for the first part of the Summer Term. We will look at: the equivalence of fractions; addition and subtractions of fractions (including mixed numbers); multiplication of fractions by an integer; mixed numbers; and improper fractions.
In English, our theme is 'to entertain' which we also explored in Autumn 1 Term. Our core text is 'The Girl of Ink and Stars’ by Kiran Millwood Hargrave which I couldn't put down - it was that exciting! Using this text to inspire us we will create our own settings and short stories using a range of the rainbow grammar sentences that we have been perfecting.
In Science, this half term is focused on 'Materials'. We will be gaining knowledge of the words filtering, sieving, solution, reversible and irreversible states, in order to conduct our own investigation.
Parents .... Please aim to listen to or encourage your child to read at least 3 x a week and record it in their reading planner. Navigators change their reading books on a Friday each week. Please make sure that your child has their reading planner in school every day to support with our monitoring and allow us to sign them also.
Online Learning/ homework
There are weekly spellings available on Spelling Shed and weekly times tables to practise on Purple Mash so please make sure that your child uses these websites at least once a week too.
Our PE day is Friday . Please send your children into school wearing their PE kit on these days. If it is cooler that day please ensure your child is wearing navy or black jogging bottoms, their school jumper and trainers.
Please make sure your child only brings a water bottle, packed lunch (if they have one), their book bag (including their reading planner everyday) and their coat. Please check your child has not taken any small toys, lip glosses or sweets with them in the morning.
I look forward to our Summer Term together
